Walking by Daugava [2016]
I like walking by Daugava. Especially after they made the promenade and that thing is LONG, taking you to the outskirts of the city long. And saw some stuff I had previously never known about in my town!

Walking by Daugava
Original Description: One nice sunny day I decided to walk down the new path that was built to the existing one. Lots of pictures was taken.
Added Description: No, don't remember why the picture was sideways or why I didn't fix it.

Walking by Daugava 2
Original Description: While unadvaisable, you can swim in Daugava asnd such stairs can take you down the hill to experience the cool waters.
Added Description: Ugh, why so many typos, past-me...

Walking by Daugava 3
Original Description: No comment.

Walking by Daugava 4
Original Description: Glorius sights and not even that far to travel from home.

Walking by Daugava 5
Original Description: I walked into the water to cool off my feet and take a closer look to those majestic, if dangerous, birds.

Walking by Daugava 6
Original Description: A closer look to a small family. The other parent was swimming nearby.

Walking by Daugava 7
Original Description: This is a small lake connected to Daugava at the end of the original road. If you notice some ruined buildings from really old days…that's what they are.
Mazjumpravas Muiža is quite old, dating back to the 13th century, seeing every single one time that my country has been invaded, taken over and controlled, it was made into a concentration camp during WWII, which left the last two buildings in the deplorable state they are in today. With the construction of the Daugavas Promenade, Rīgas Dome has decided to keep the buildings and make this into a little park for peoples enjoyment.
Added Description: I hadn't even known there had been any of those camps in Latvian territory.
And it wasn't the only one.

Walking by Daugava 8
Original Description: I've been inside of it, for a moment, nothing spectacular, but a sense of long life on the remaining walls.

Walking by Daugava 9
Original Description: The second building, much bigger then the first. It's insides are full of fallen leaves. I wonder if anyone ever cleans it up…

Walking by Daugava 10
Original Description: The third and final building. This was one of the best shots, honest. It's too wide to even try and get it in from the front, so a side shot had to do. The metal was put atop it to protect the ruins from the elements, somewhat.

Walking by Daugava 11
Original Description: Onwards!
The right side really needs a trim. Just saying.

Walking by Daugava 12
Original Description: Now this is a beautiful picture!

Walking by Daugava 13
Original Description: Found this when walking by. When I asked my grandparents, they guess this was used to anchor boats. Makes sense, I guess.

Walking by Daugava 14
Original Description: A place where you can go for a swim or fishing experience.

Walking by Daugava 15
Original Description: I looked back to see how far you can see the path. Not a lot, but here is a great view!

Walking by Daugava 16
Original Description: …
Yeah, I have no idea what the story here is. Anybody have a theory or headcanon?

Walking by Daugava 17
Original Description: Still a great view though.

Walking by Daugava 18
Original Description: Can you guess what it is?
It's an old hanger. Apparently, there was an old airport nearby, but nowadays it's pretty abandoned. Well, on the plane side of things. There's plenty of farm houses/summer homes nearby and one of the old roads is used for driver tests. But the hangers themselves are left alone.

Walking by Daugava 19
Original Description: Another one next to the previous one.

Walking by Daugava 20
Original Description: Picture taken at the end of the walkway.

Walking by Daugava 21
Original Description: Tried to climb up, but: a bit too steep, the water bottle in my bag was weighing me down and I was not dressed properly for the trek upwards.

Walking Down the Road
Original Description: The other side of the hanger.

Walking Down the Road 2
Original Description: Yet another hanger, that was hidden by the grass and buildings on the other side.

Walking Down the Road 3
Original Description: I walked closer to the third hanger I saw to try and see if I can see what is inside. Due to the grass and junk, I couldn't.

Walking Down the Road 4
Original Description: There is a lot of hangers down the road. Some have been destroyed if the piles of stone are any indication.

Walking Down the Road 5
Original Description: Like these piles.

Walking Down the Road 6
Original Description: Some people are absolutely horrible. There are places to put tires!

Walking Down the Road 7
Original Description: Bunch of buildings, probably where the people who worked here kept their stuff and lived.

Walking Down the Road 8
Original Description: The path branches off in 2 ways. I went right to see where it leads. Just a lot of hangers.

Walking Down the Road 9
Original Description: This is the closest I got to one of these hangers. It was pretty cool, if scary given how some others looked.

Walking Down the Road 10
Original Description: Like this for instance.
Yikes, I did not realize my finger was in the shot.

Walking Down the Road 11
Original Description: Time is not kind to man made structures.

Walking Down the Road 12
Original Description: Even more hangers. And some paths to homes for other people.

Walking Down the Road 13
Original Description: Another hanger.

Walking Down the Road 14
Original Description: Looking ominous. And the end of the path. Time to turn around and go back.

Walking Down the Road 15
Original Description: The path I have to walk to get to the original fork.

Walking Down the Road 16
Original Description: Got bored just walking, so I took a picture of the fields nearby.

Walking Down the Road 17
Original Description: Pretty places, when you look at it. Quiet and peaceful too.

Walking Down the Road 18
Original Description: The path I have walked already…

Walking Down the Road 19
Original Description: …And the one I still have to walk.

Walking Down the Road 20
Original Description: Well, time to walk and get to the exit!
Added Description: What was once a runway, then used as a training track for drivers.

Walking Down the Road 21
Original Description: An hour later and here is the way to the main road!

Duckies!
Original Description: Went by the water channel one day in downtown Riga and saw a bunch of ducks walking about.
Also: I know it's not taken in the summer, but I had no idea where to put this pic.Added description: I had this pic uploaded in May and placed in the summer collection.
