Ducks of Riga Canal
The water fowls are a plentiful in the small canal that was once the river Ridzene.
A river that split from the Daugava on the right side, big and deep enough for boats to have traveled through it, as evidenced by the numerous shipwrecks that have been been in its former bed.
The river was essentially buried, after the last of the old fortifications were removed in 1860, burying the Ridzene, which by that point was made into a moat, building an underground canal to reunite it into the Daugava.
But the ducks don't care about the history, they just want to swim in it!
